The collection consists of two letters from William P. Trent to William E. Boggs (Chancellor of the University of Georgia). The first dated University of the South, Sewanee, Tennessee, November 14, 1890, regarding an offer from Chancellor Boggs to Mr. Trent to fill the Chair of History at University of Georgia; Trent speaks about advantages and disadvantages of being at Sewanee, and asks about teaching loads at the University of Georgia (final page of letter is missing). The second letter dated Westmoreland Club, Richmond, Virginia, February 4, 1891, regarding his complicated decision to decline the offer for Chair of History; he speaks of positions at University of Georgia, and the policy for hiring; he plans to visit Athens and see the University, "provided always that the Trustees do not require a formal application."
